Q. What
is Chiropractic?

A. Chiropractic is an all-natural process of locating
and removing a severe form of spinal nerve stress called
vertebral subluxation.
Q.
What is the purpose of Chiropractic care?

A. The goal of chiropractic care is not the treatment of
any disease. Rather, the enhancement of health through
the reduction of spinal nerve stress (vertebral
subluxation). The effects of which can impact the
balance of your entire body and how it functions.
Q.
What does a chiropractor do?

A. Doctors of chiropractic receive years of highly
specialized training to analyze your body for vertebral
subluxations. After a vertebral subluxation is located,
the chiropractor will use various spinal adjustment
techniques to place the vertebrae in its proper position
and release the spinal nerves being ”pinched.”
Q.
What is a Vertebral Subluxation?

A. A condition that puts pressure on spinal nerves,
lowers your resistance to disease, unbalances and
weakens your body. Misplaced spinal vertebrae impinge or
“pinch” the spinal nerves. These spinal nerves travel
down the spinal cord, out through the spinal column
between each vertebrae and are attached to muscles,
organs and glands of the body.
Q.
How does a Vertebral Subluxation Occur?

A. They may occur at infancy during a difficult birth or
from childhood falls. As we get older, emotional tension
or other stressors on your body can gradually damage
your spine. Severe injuries from auto accidents or
sports can also impact the health of your spine by
“jarring” it out of alignment.
Q.
Who is affected by this condition?

A. Nearly everyone will experience vertebral subluxation
at some point in their lives. Vertebral subluxation is a
“Hidden Epidemic.” Therefore, it is important that you
have periodic spinal exams by a doctor of chiropractic.
You would do this just as you would with your routine
vision and dental visits.
Q.
When was the first chiropractic patient treated?

A. Chiropractic as we know it today began in 1895. Dr.
D. D. Palmer performed the first chiropractic “spinal
adjustment” on his janitor, Harvey Lillard, who was
deaf. Lillard’s hearing returned and Palmer thought he
had discovered a cure for hearing loss. However, as
patients with digestive problems, sciatica, menstrual
trouble, migraine headaches, epilepsy, heart problems,
back pain and many other conditions responded to spinal
care, Palmer realized that he had discovered something
far-reaching indeed.
Q.
How is a spinal adjustment performed?

A. A spinal adjustment is performed using a “hands-on”
approach. The chiropractor conducts an evaluation of
your body using various methods that may even include
x-rays. After locating the areas of the spine that are
experiencing vertebral subluxation, the chiropractor
corrects the condition using highly specialized
techniques. Which align the vertebrae and release the
spinal nerves.
Q.
What are the most common conditions treated by
chiropractic?

A. Many conditions are treated with chiropractic care.
The most common include and are not limited to: colds,
ear infections, PMS, spinal or disc ailments, arthritis,
insomnia, stress, vision problems, headaches allergies,
bedwetting, colic, high blood pressure, etc… The list is
long. As a matter of fact, most chiropractic textbooks
list over two hundred diseases that can be healed.
Q.
Can I receive chiropractic treatments while I’m under
medical care?

A. Absolutely! Correcting your vertebral subluxations is
important regardless of any other types of care you are
receiving. You can have your spinal column checked for
vertebral subluxations by a doctor of chiropractic and
still visit a doctor of homeopathy, naturopathy,
osteopathy or medicine. Keep in mind, unless you are
seeing a doctor of chiropractic, other medical
professionals are not trained to diagnose or correct
vertebral subluxations. And, they may not know if your
are suffering from this condition of spinal nerve
stress.
Q.
In addition to chiropractic treatments, are there other
significant factors to consider?

A. Yes, besides chiropractic care, there are five
factors to take into consideration when looking to
enhance your health and longevity.
1. Proper Nutrition
2. Adequate Rest
3. Moderate Exercise
4. A Positive Mental Attitude
5. Proper Nerve Supply
Whether
you’ve been diagnosed with a disease or an emotional or
physical condition, you can benefit from a healthy
spine. Spinal health is as important for your overall
healing as proper nutrition.
Among
the many things contributing to the quality of your
health - the air, food and water you take in, how you
handle emotional stress, your genetic make-up, whether
you are taking medications, exercise regularly and
practice relaxation techniques, a healthy spine is
absolutely essential. In most people it is the
difference between a life of health, strength and
vitality or a life of imbalance, disease and disability. |
